Good Afternoon,
I hope this finds you well.
I would like to get in touch with you regarding volunteering opportunities at the Yorkshire Marathon on Sunday 20th October.
Let me introduce ourselves; Run For All is part of the lasting legacy of the late amateur athlete and fundraiser Jane Tomlinson CBE, who made headlines around the world by taking part in a series of incredible endurance events – despite being diagnosed with an incurable cancer. By 2007 her declining health meant she was unable to take part in any more extraordinary undertakings. However, using the money she raised on her epic American adventure, Jane was able to sow the seeds for the Run For All Leeds 10K – the cornerstone of what would become her continuing legacy.
Today that one run has grown Run For All into one of the UK’s biggest not-for-profit events companies, providing a fundraising vehicle for a huge number of local and national charities. Every year tens of thousands of people take part in our popular events – running for charity, for a personal challenge or just for fun.
Each year, we require thousands of volunteers in a variety of roles to ensure our Run For All events go without a hitch and the participants have a fantastic time. Your support really is greatly appreciated by all. Every volunteer will also receive a volunteer goody bag with a t-shirt and snacks for the morning.
Below is some information on the roles available:
• Route Marshals
Route Marshals are positioned along the route, where you will experience the buzz of the event. You will have the privilege of cheering on the runners, acting as additional motivation. Some Route Marshals will be situated on road junctions to ensure that no unofficial vehicles access the route whilst the event is taking place and road closures are in place. You will also be the eyes and ears for the runner and communicate any potential hazards. Each section will be allocated a Senior Marshal who will be on hand to assist Route Marshals. The atmosphere on route is always fantastic.
• Drink Station Marshals
Drink Station Marshals, like the Route Marshals are on the route. Drink Station Marshals assist with the set-up and pack down of the drink station ensuring that this is ready ahead of the event starting. The marshals will then assist with handing out water to the runners as they pass, whilst also acting as additional motivation on route. Another responsibility is ensuring that the area is kept clean and free of litter. This role is ideally for groups of volunteers but individuals are welcome to register but groups may get priority.
• Race Office Assistants
The Race Office is the event hub. The race office is where runners will pick-up their race packs, safety pins and see our friendly race team if they have any questions. Race Office Assistants will help to handout race packs to those runners who have not received these in the post and be on hand to answer any questions runners may have. The Race Office is a customer-facing role so this role would require volunteers who are friendly and approachable.
• Baggage Store Marshals
Runners visit the baggage stores before the event to hand over their bags to the volunteers, who will then put it in onto correct numbered areas. The runner will then return to the baggage store post-event where the volunteer will check the runners’ number then hand back the correct numbered bag.
Once again, hundreds of Eventeers join our community each year and without you Run For All events would not be possible. Our Eventeers are ambassadors whose enthusiasm and commitment creates an atmosphere that sets out events apart from others – high quality, fun, For All.
If this is something that your club/group may be interested in then please do let me know. We really would appreciate your help.
Look forward to hearing from you
Kind Regards
Georgia
