Hi there,
Your group has previously been kind enough to circulate our requests for participants in studies of the eye disease glaucoma. We also asked other local U3A groups to do the same, and off the back of that I have recently given a talk to the Harrogate branch’s Science and Technology group which seemed to go down very well. I have been invited to give the same talk to Leeds U3A next week.
I would like to offer to give the same talk to your Science & Technology group if you are interested. The outline of the talk is below, it lasts about 45 minutes. Of course there would be no charge for this, though I would be grateful if I could hand out more flyers for volunteers to take part in our ongoing studies.
Please let me know if you are interested.
Thanks
Jonathan
Title: “Glaucoma -Why it is “the silent thief of sight”
Description: Glaucoma is one of the most common causes of irreversible blindness worldwide. Early detection is important for successful treatment, but diagnosis of glaucoma can be tricky and many people with glaucoma experience no symptoms until they have already lost a lot of their sight. I will explain why this is the case, and talk about some of our research aiming to better understand glaucoma and its diagnosis.
About me: Dr Jonathan Denniss is a Lecturer in Optometry at the University of Bradford. He has over ten years’ experience of glaucoma research in the UK and Australia, and currently leads a research team investigating how glaucoma affects visual processing and better techniques for glaucoma diagnosis. He also leads a postgraduate course in glaucoma management for qualified health professionals and teaches on the undergraduate optometry course.
